New Healthcare Complex |
|
In September 2005, the Niagara Health System received approval from the Province of Ontario for a new healthcare complex to provide modern hospital facilities that will ultimately improve healthcare for everyone living in Niagara.
The healthcare complex, to be built in west St. Catharines, will bring new healthcare programs for cancer treatment, cardiac catheterization and tertiary mental health to Niagara. These services have not existed in Niagara, resulting in thousands of patients and their families having to travel outside the region for healthcare services that should be available closer to home.
New programs and services include a Regional Cancer Centre, named the Walker Family Cancer Centre, Cardiac Care/Catheterization Centre, and a Long-Term (Tertiary) Mental Health Centre for residents of the regional municipality of Niagara. The new health complex will also help attract and retain nurses, doctors and specialists.
