SAILORS SUPPORT THE BIG MOVE
Local Sailors from Upper Lakes Shipping supported Kim Kobayashi in the 100k ride. Kim encouraged a friendly competition by offering the Ship with the largest pledge amount a free pizza lunch!
MORGAN’S SECOND MACHINE!
Our office was notified that the special care nursery was in urgent need of a special piece of equipment to transfer our babies with special needs. Thanks to the Mattern Family, in honour of Morgan who was born at the SCGH 12 years ago, the equipment is now a reality. Morgan stated "this is the best birthday present ever!"
MEMORIAL FOR DR. HEIME GEFFEN
Friends, family and colleagues gathered together on Sunday. Sept 6th to celebrate the memory of a beloved doctor, Dr. Heime Geffen. Through his 30 years of service, Dr. Geffen held numerous positions including: General Practioner, Chief of Family Medicine at the SCGH and Hotel Dieu Hospitals, Medical Advisor to many programs, Chief of Medical Staff for the NHS, and President of the Lincoln County Academy of Medicine. He was a source of extraordinary care, cpmpassion, support and advice.
Donations made in memory of Dr. Geffen allowed us to purchase a Transport Patient Stretcher for the Palliative Care Unit.
OPG KICK-OFF FUNDRAISING ENDEAVOUR
Our friends at Ontario Power Generation (OPG) have generously commiteed to raising $4,000 for a Portable Vital Signs Monitor for the Intensive Care Unit. They kicked off their fundraising efforts in September with a staff BBQ. Staff had a wonderful day and participated in many activities including a competition for building the best scarecrow! Their fundraising efforts will continue over the next few months.
A great wife, mother, friend and nurse who always cared very deeply about her patients received the same respect from her loved ones. All donations recently received in memory of Elizabeth Fisher, R. N. were directed toward the purchase of a pain pump for in-patient oncology/palliative patients.
Students at St. Denis of the Niagara Catholic District School Board were hard at work preparing 30 Easter baskets for patients in the Paediatric department. The Easter baskets were a perfect remedy for our patients, who wore bright smiles throughout their stay.

Thank you to the supporters of the Black & Gold Valentine’s Day Dinner this past February in support of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Your efforts and thos eof nancy Grodesky - volunteer of the Canadian Cancer Society with Marie Gallagher, co-chair successfully raised the funds needed to purchase a Chemotherapy Chair for Outpatient Oncology.
Once again, advertisers at Niagara This Week were thrilled to participate in the 4th Annual Bears That Care campaign. Representatives from Niagara This Week were proud to donate stuffed bears to children staying in the Paediatric Departments in Welland, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.
We are thrilled to announce a recent donation totalling $10,000 over 3 years from the St. Gilles Presbyterian Church. The congregation’s generous contribution will assist the Chaplaincy in their ministry activities at the New Healthcare Centre.
In February, the Book Depot generously donated $2,500 in books to the Paediatric, Mental Health, Oncology, Palliative Care and Chaplaincy departments at the SCG. Representatives from each department enjoyed a shopping spree at the Book Depot’s retail store on Welland Avenue in St. Catharines. The books are very much appreciated and help brighten the spirits of our patients and their families while they are healing. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
To celebrate the recent amalgamation with the Ukrainian Credit Union Limited (UCU), long-time friends at the St. Catharines Ukrainian Credit Union generously donated $20,000 toward the New Health-care Centre in support of the "It’s Our Time" campaign.
This donation demonstrates the Credit Union’s on-going commitment to the health, economic and social well being of the residents of Niagara.
C.A.W. Local 199 Retirees and the C.A.W. Niagara Area Retired Workers Council recently donated the funds to purchase two Pocket Talkers and two Passy Muir valves for Speech Pathology. This equipment plays an integral role in assisting patients to communicate with the Speech Pathology team, family and friends.

To commemorate Leon’s 100th Anniversary, Terry Leon, President and CEO of the Canadian furniture company traveled across the country donating more than $1 million to community initiatives. Included in this celebratory initiative was a needed revitalization of the Surgeon’s Lounge at the SCGH. Leon’s generosity has provided an exceptional space that combines quality, comfort, style and functionality.

In February, guests enjoyed an informative home-improvement seminar by decorating expert, Leigh-Ann Perrault. Leigh-Ann, Colour and Design Representative for Benjamin Moore, can often be seen showcasing her flare for colour on City TV’s, City Line and was happy to share the latest trends in home improvement using the newest paints from Benjamin Moore.
