Our Stories

The St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation is proud to feature just a few of the many wonderful donors, volunteers and friends that support our fundraising initiatives.
MEET ALYSSA
At only 3 years young, Alissa Lucciola-Peacock wanted to help “little kids who need medicine for their tummies.”  So Alissa set up a lemonade stand (provided by Sunkist) at the Labour Day and Grape and Wine parades and sold 193 glasses of lemonade to support the Paediatric Department, totalling over $48.  What a tremendous accomplishment for this young philanthropist who proves “you’re never too young to make a difference!”

A CUT ABOVE!
We would like to extend a special thank you to Breanna Addabbo who raised over $3,200 toward urgently needed equipment for the Oncology Department at the St. Catharines General Hospital.  Breanna’s commitment to helping our community didn’t stop at raising money for Oncology – for months she has been growing her hair so to make wigs for cancer patients. Thank you, Breanna, your efforts are truly remarkable.

Breanna was beaming with pride when she presented Sandra Wilkes with $3,200.  Shortly after the cheque presentation, Breanna’s hair was cut in front of the students at St. Peter’s school which will be used to make a wig for individuals who have lost their hair during cancer treatment.

LONG-TIME VOLUNTEER, BOB BEACH, DIRECTS GRANT TO THE SCGHF
As a Retired Petro-Canada employee, Bob Beach received a $500 grant through Petro Canada’s Volunteer Energy Program.  In the spirit of Bob’s generous nature he chose to donate the grant to The Foundation.  Bob has made a significant contribution to our community through his involvement with the HELPP Lottery program and participation in our Run/Spin/Walk for the General.

YOUNG PHILANTHROPIST CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY & HELPS PATIENTS IN THE PAEDIATRIC DEPARTMENT
Instead of presents, Richie Olinski asked friends and family to donate to The St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation for his 11th birthday.  The birthday extravaganza was held at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Complex and guests enjoyed an evening of playing hockey, skating, and a pizza party.

Richie is no stranger to the needs of our hospital.  His mom, Loretta Tirabassi-Olinski, is a registered nurse at Ontario Street Site of the Niagara Health System and hospital needs are often discussed at the Olinski home.

We are thrilled to announce that Richie raised enough in donations to purchase a desperately needed Paediatric Pulse Oximeter – a vital piece of equipment for the Emergency Department that measures how much oxygen is carried in the blood of child patients. A special thank you all Richie’s friends and family for supporting our hospital. We are truly touched by Richie & the Olinski Family, not only for their generosity, but for their outstanding commitment to healthcare in Niagara.
