Chief Operating Officer

Sandra Sabo first became involved with the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation in 1994 as a volunteer. At that time, she was asked to organize the Foundation’s first black tie gala evening, and raised an amazing $58,000! Immediately following the success of the gala, the Foundation’s Board of Directors asked Sandra to join the staff as the Special Project Coordinator.

Promoted to Executive Director in 1998, Sandra has led numerous successful fundraising campaigns and has spearheaded many tremendously successful special events. The annual galas Sandra has organized have raised more than $880,000, and, as is the mandate of the Foundation, all proceeds were directed towards patient care equipment for the St. Catharines General Site of the Niagara Health System. Sandra has also organized the Annual Run for the General, deLUX fashion shows, golf tournaments, Dragon Boat Festivals and many others.

Sandra’s special event savvy has not gone unnoticed. In June of 2003, she was recognized at Niagara College’s convocation ceremony with a Honourary Post-graduate Certificate in Special Event Management.

Sandra lives in St. Catharines and enjoys cooking, fitness and travelling. She is an active member of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners.

When asked how Sandra feels about her work with the Foundation, she says “My work is very challenging because of the issues in health care today, but the passion I feel is incredible when I speak to donors about maintaining and improving the quality of health care to the patients in our community."
